As one might expect, geology is a visual science that requires a lot of hands-on learning. While rock and mineral samples provided for us in the classroom are useful learning tools, it is also important for geologists to study the structures and formations that can only be seen in the field. Thanks to generous donations from our friends at BP, the Geology Club is able to orgainize short weekend field trips to local areas in Louisiana as well as longer field trips to areas outside of the state such as Big Bend National Park and the Florida Keys. Altogether, field trips cause students to become excited and passionate about learning geology while building friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
